There’s no denying that people love Tom Holland — but there are many reasons why. Sure, he’s the star of Spider-Man: Far from Home, which earned more than $185 million in the US in just six days. He also already has memorable movie lines, particularly in Captain America: Civil War and in Avengers: Infinity War. However, not everyone realizes just how appealing Tom is even when he’s not Spider-man.
The Appeal of a Young, White Celebrity
If you’ve been browsing sites like Twitter and Tumblr in the early 2010s, you will notice something about how teenagers find their new idols. In particular, we’re talking about female teens and how they seem to have a thing for white, seemingly awkward dudes. Don’t believe us? Take Logan Lerman, for example. To this day, you’ll see many posts on Tumblr featuring him. Fans became enamored the moment they saw him play Charlie in the film adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
And just this week, there was a viral post on Twitter about how Aaron Taylor-Johnson was the ‘OG’ white boy in the hearts of young girls. The actor was just 18 years old when his movie Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging was released. Then there’s Timothee Chalamet, who rose to fame in 2017 after his performance as Elio in Call Me By Your Name and as Kyle in Lady Bird.
Tom is a Good-Hearted, Funny Individual
While there is a pattern, the next question is: Why Tom Holland? Well, one would be the fact that he is distinct. He’s an English actor who made it big in Hollywood — in the United States. Second, he knows how to keep the crowd talking. Remember when people noticed that he was always the one accidentally giving out spoilers in Marvel movies? That alone differentiates him from all the other famous white guys.
Then there’s the recent viral video, which was taken at the end of June. Tom Holland was in New York City signing autographs for his fans when a bunch of grown men began pushing their way to the front. What’s worse was that a young girl was at the barricade, and she was getting crushed.
Tom noticed what was happening and ordered others to stop shoving her. He then threated to throw their stuff away — and he supposedly did. Tom was also seen in the video looking at the girl, reassuring her that things were going to be alright. The video was short but it was enough for the public to give Tom praise.
He Seriously Knows How to Dance
Of course, the Internet remembers everything, which is why Tom Holland’s legendary performance of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” on Lip Sync Battle pops up every now and then. But that’s not enough to keep him on the radar recently, which is why Twitter also dug up his other dance videos. One featured him dancing to “Controlla” by Drake while another one making the rounds has him doing ballet in the form of fouetté.
Tom Holland is indeed a good-looking white individual, but that alone didn’t make him the new favorite. You see, he’s a funny English guy who’s skilled in both acting and dancing. Plus, he’s a good-hearted man — showing that anyone can be a hero in real life by standing up for even just one person.
